3rd International Choral Celebration & Laurea Mundi Budapest - HUNGARY

18-22 May 2018

The Budapest International Choral Celebration offers you a wide range of participation opportunities:
If you wish to take part at the festival, give concerts, sing along with other choirs, please browse the selection of Festival Activities.
If you prefer to take part at the choir competition, chose from our Competition Categories. The competition will run on two levels: the International Choir Competition is open to all the choirs, while the Grand Prix is announced for choirs that can present results from previous international competitions.
Your choir may attend both events but you are free to participate only in the festival or only in the competition.

All Grand Prix Choirs will be admitted by the artistic committee. In case a choir is not happy with the decision of the artistic committee whether they meet or do not meet the critera, or cannot decide in which competition they shoud take part, the choirs may participate in a qualification round prior to the actual competitions. They have the opportunity of being evaluated by a competent jury and thereby receiving information as to which competition is the best one in which the choir can present its current level of artistic achievement.
This qualification round is placed before the competitions, but is not a part of the competition. The choirs sing the same program as in the competition. The jury’s evaluation is final; diplomas are not presented.

Laurea Mundi Grand Prix Competition (GP) - Advice on your category and program choice
Category selections
All Grand Prix Choirs will be admitted by the artistic committee. The Grand Prix series offers an opportunity for the world’s top choirs to present themselves. It is designed for choirs of a high artistic level which have already achieved extraordinary results at prestigious international choir competitions or festivals.

Participation is open for all non-professional choirs which meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Grand Prix winners, Prize winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd Prizes) or category winners or winners of a Golden Di-ploma with more than 23,00 points from any comparable choir competition (A copy of the certificate must be submitted with registration).
- Choirs which have qualified on-site at the Laurea Mundi International Open Competition.
- Choirs also have the possibility to qualify during the event by taking part at a Qualifying performance.
- Choirs delegated by their country, ministry, choral associations, etc.

Qualifying Performance
Choirs have the opportunity to perform their program to a panel of jurors prior to the competition. The Jury decides if the choir’s achievement is fit for Open Competition or Grand Prix Competition.

Qualification
Choirs may perform in those categories in which they have received qualifications or have won prizes at previ-ous competitions. If a choir has qualified in categories not represented at this competition, it may participate in categories 1-5 according to the type of choir.
Choirs may participate in only one of the categories 1 to 5. Categories 6, 7 and 8 can be chosen additionally or individually. If a choir qualified as a children’s choir, but members of the choir exceed the age limit in the meantime, they can participate in the youth choir category.

Age restriction
In categories with age restrictions, a limited number of singers may diverge from what is required, up to a cer-tain age. Consult us with your specific circumstances.

Multiple participation
For organizational reasons, individual choir members may participate in smaller ensembles formed out of their primary choir but may NOT sing in more than one primary choir. Female and male voices of a mixed choir have the opportunity to take part in the category for female and male voices as well.

Program selection
Please consider the structure of the program carefully. Aim to find a balance of dramaturgy, diversity of musical character, and pleasing order of pieces. We advise selecting music which best reflects the choir’s knowledge and national/cultural choral traditions that is appropriate to the age group and abilities of the singers.
When a choir takes part in several categories, songs may not be repeated. Music for each category must be different. Choirs qualifying from the Open Competition to the Grand Prix Competition may sing the same 3 pieces performed in the Open Competition, with two additional pieces.
