PROGRAMME DAY 1
•Arrival on Lake Garda, chek into your hotel and welcome from your tour guide.
Your local guide will be with your choir throughout your stay in Verona to assist you with all choral activities
•Your choir will have free time in the afternoon to explore the Lake Garda area
•You will enjoy a group dinner at your hotel before transferring by coach to the opening ceremony in Teatro Filarmonico in the city of Verona
•At the opening ceremony, all choirs are welcomed by representatives of the city and province of Verona and by the hosts Associazione Gruppi Corali Verona. You will then enjoy a concert organised especially for this festival performed by participants of local choirs
•Coach transfer back to your hotel following the ceremony

DAY 2
•Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in the morning before heading out on a full-day tour to Venice, one of the most unique cities in Europe. During the tour, enjoy a boat ride from Tronchetto to the San Marco Square and enjoy a short walking tour of the city of Venice - “The city of canals”
•Free time in the afternoon to visit other points of interest in Venice
•Your choir will have dinner at the hotel restaurant in the evening

DAY 3
•Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in the morning followed by coach transfer with your guide to Verona to perform in the competition at a prestigious local theater
•You will have free time for lunch in Verona following your performance. Your choir can also enjoy listening to some of the other participating choirs perform, and hear choral traditions from around the world.
•In the afternoon, your guide will take you on walking tour of Verona showing you all the main points of interest
•Coach transfer back to Lake Garda in the late afternoon.
•Your choir will have dinner at the hotel restaurant in the evening

DAY 4
•Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in the morning followed by coach transfer with your guide to Verona where a reception if organised for all choir directors
•After the choir directors reception, the official closing ceremony takes place at the Teatro Filarmonico.
•The closing ceremony begins with the Awards Ceremony, where trophies and plaques are presented to winning choirs. The presentation is followed by performances of the choirs who have placed in the gold level. All choirs are attend a reception with snacks and beverages. The Closing Ceremony ends with a grand procession through the city of Verona to the Roman Arena, where all choirs will join together to sing Va Pensiero, Inno Alla Gioia and Amazing Grace.
•Your choir will have dinner at the hotel restaurant in the evening
After dinner, head off to a nearby village to participate in a friendship concert with a local Italian choir, giving you the opportunity to meet with the choir members and to exchange cultural values with an Italian Choir

DAY 5
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in the morning and departure.

The Verona Choir Competition is for non-professional choirs only.
Categories of participation
A) Mixed choirs
B) Male choirs
C) Female choirs
D) Youth & Young Adult choirs (a single category max 25 years old)
grouped into the following categories:
1- Polyphonic renaissance, romantic and contemporary repertoire;
2- Polyphonic renaissance, romantic and
contemporary repertoire with a compulsory piece
of music;
3- Popular and folk repertoire:
4- Classical polyphonic song;

1) CLASSICAL POLIPHONIC SONG
• Only female voices category A1
• Only male voices category B1
• Mixed voices category C1
• Young voices category D1
The choirs will have to sing polyphonic pieces freely chosen from the renaissance, romantic and contemporary periods. The songs will have to be sung in their original language. Non-original version are not allowed. A piano can be used for only one song if it is necessary for the original version. The total time for any performance must not exceed a total of 20 minutes, including on and off stage movements.

2) CLASSICAL POLIPHONIC SONGS WITH COMPULSORY PIECE
• Only female voices category A2
• Young voices category D2

In addition to compulsory song, the choirs will have to sing polyphonic pieces freely chosen from the renaissance, romantic and contemporary periods. The songs will have to be sung in their original language. Non-original version are not allowed. A piano can be used for only one song if it is necessary for the original version. The total time for any performance must not exceed a total of 20 minutes, including on and off stage movements.

3) POPULAR FOLK SONG
• Only female voices category A3
• Only male voices category B3
• Mixed voices category C3
• Young voices category D3
The choirs will have to sing popular songs in their original or personalized version, freely chosen preferably from the country of origin. Rhythmic musical instruments and any other indications included in the song are allowed. At least one song must be sung without musical instruments (a cappella). The total time for any performance must not exceed a total of 20 minutes, including on and off stage movements.

4) JAZZ, BLUES, SWING…SONG
Choral groups and any other kind of choir
category A4-B4-C4-D4.
The choirs will have to sing pieces freely chosen. Rhythmic musical instruments and any other indications included in the song are allowed. At least one song must be sung without musical instruments (a cappella). The total time for any performance must not exceed a total of 20 minutes, including on and off stage movements.

RULES
- Choral and non-professional vocal groups can enrol in the XXX International Choirs Festival
- The choirs will have to send a copy of their scores with indications regarding the category they intend to enter.
- The Commission will evaluate whether or not the
scores will be admitted.
- If a score is of little interest or is not in line with the
category in which the choir or the vocal group intend to take part, the Commission will ask for the score to be changed or to be integrated with new scores;
- Choirs that do not send the required material will not
be able to take part in the competition;
- Each choir can enrol in only one category of the competition;
- Auditions will take place on Thursday March 28 and/or on Friday March 29. The order in which the choir will perform, will be announced 30 days before the competition starts.
- The prize giving ceremony will take place on Saturday March 30 at 10:00 am, after the function in the Town Hall in Verona.
- The closing ceremony of the XXX International Choirs Festival, will take place in the Arena, the
ancient amphitheater in Verona, with all the choir
singing in unison.
- All the choirs will be guests – unless they decline – in
various concert organized by Veronese choirs in
the whole province of Verona in the evening of March 30

JUDGES RULES
- The judge will be made up of well-known international musicians, and they will be supervised by the President of the Choral Group Association who will oversee the competition without voting.
In his absence, the Judges will nominate a President among their members.
- There will be 7 Judges in the Jury.
- Each choir in each category will be judged according to the following criteria: INTONATION,RHYTHM;VOCAL PLACEMENT;DYNAMICS AND INTERPRETATION.
- Each Judge will express hisher evaluation with a number score.
- The results obtained will be verified and approved by the Jury in a meeting .
- Each choir will be judged according to the score obtained and put in one of the following categories of merits:
EXCELLENT with a score of 90-100
GOOD with a score of 80-89,9
FAIR with a score of 70-79,9
SUFFICIENT with a score of 60-69,9
NON-CLASSIFIED under 59,9
- All the verdicts of the Jury will be recorded by a secretary.
- The final verdict of the Jury is irrevocable.
- The choirs will be able to meet the Judges at the end of the competition to obtain a technical opinion on their final results.

PRIZES
- Each choir will receive:A PARTICIPATION DIPLOMA,THE JUDGES TECHNICAL EVALUATION,A MEDAL,A DVD OF THE EVENT,A GROUP PHOTO
- Choirs that reach the scores of EXCELLENT, GOOD and FAIR, will receive a cup
- THE CHOIRS IN THE SECTION POLIPHONIC SONG WITH A COMPULSORY PIECE (categories A2, B2, C2, D2) that will reach the highest scores in the excellent category, will receive a prize of €500.
The Judges can decide to award special prizes for the most original folk group, the best interpretation, the most interesting repertoire, others…

“OSWALD STOCKER” SPECIAL PRIZE
The best choir in the competition that will have reached the score of not less than 98100, will receive the Oswald Stocker special prize. The winning choir (max 40 singers), will be invited to open the XXXI completion 2020 and to stay in a 3 stars hotel free of charge for the whole duration of the competition.
In addition the director, will be permitted to sit at the table of the International Judges and to take part in the evaluation without the right to vote.
The prize is not transferable; it includes half board service, and it expires with no possibility of recovery if it is not accepted within 31st January 2020
If the Judges do not reach a unanimous verdict, they have the right not to award the prize.
